We are an independent web hosting company built and run by bloggers. More than just blog hosting, we feature top quality service at the lowest possible price providing a reliable, affordable and flexible platform for our diverse set of clients.

Bloghosts is a small company run by real people with real lives who personally respond to all email and support tickets. We pride ourselves on communicating openly with our customers and demolishing the traditional customer/provider relationship. We have challenged ourselves to blog about anything and everything as it relates to our business. There are no secrets, no agendas, and no cover-ups. We will be open and honest, always.

“Since moving to Bloghosts I’ve had zero problems and appreciate you keeping the servers up to date. I especially appreciate the constant upgrades to cPanel. I am amazed at the control I have over my account.” –Matt Jadud

When you have questions we will be there with an answer, fast. All email and support tickets are answered in 24 hours, most much sooner. Our helpdesk notifies all of our staff members of requests so the first available person will be able to help you out.

“I’ve found my support tickets responded to both quickly and professionally. And I know it sounds goofy but it’s so refreshing actually having someone read what I write instead of sending back boilerplate crap.” –Adam Lasnik
Blog Software

We install all blog and gallery software for free and are happy to do so. At your request we will install the content manager of your choice and keep it upgraded with the latest stable releases. Just let us know via a support ticket and we will do the rest

“As ever, it is a delight working with you!” –Julianne Judkins
Server Software and Hardware

All of our boxes are at least 2.4ghz Intel servers with 1gb or more memory. All servers are running RedHat Enterprise Linux 3, MySQL 4.x, PHP 4.3.x and cPanel 9. Recently relocated to a premier Atlanta datacenter we utilize routes from five tier 1 bandwidth providers. This redundancy nearly eliminates uplink related outages. Our software upgrade policy is simple: We will upgrade any of our core software applications (Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc) as soon as our techs deem the latest releases stable.

“I just wanted to drop a note and say thank you for the awesome upgrade. I didn’t even notice because it was so smooth!” –Nat Harari
Downtime? What downtime?

Since Bloghosts opened it’s doors, unscheduled outages have not been a problem for us. We take great pride in being up 100% of the time. This being said, our uptime guarantee is 99%. We think this 1% cushion is sufficient to provide the level of service our clients expect from us. All scheduled downtime including reboots, upgrades, and other maintenance will be documented in our blog.

“Happy to be here and thanks for the personal attention!”
–David Spancer
Spam and Abuse

Bloghosts has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to spam and abuse. Customers spamming, running illegal software (game servers, irc daemons, etc), or abusing server resources will have their accounts terminated without the possibility of refund, appeal, or data recovery. We take the security of our customers and equipment very seriously. To report spam or abuse please contact us.

Please also read our full Terms of Service and AUP.

Dry Cleaning Versus Steam Cleaning Carpets

Dry cleaning is a godsend for people who do not have a lot of time on their hands but do have a lot of household items that need to be cleaned. There are also some (very expensive) types of clothing that will shrink if they are anything but dry-cleaned. However the same does not necessarily apply to other items like your sofa covers or carpets. These can be cleaned via another, and similarly effective, method.

Carpets are a literal smorgasbord of germs. They might make your sitting room stand out, however the fact remains that they tend to get filthy over time. You cannot expect to just haul your carpets out for a good beating. It is during times such as these that people seek the aid of steam and dry cleaning. These are two very different methods.

This does not mean that you attempt these methods yourself. Carpet dry cleaning and steaming services exist for a reason. They include people who are experts at what they do. In other words, there won’t be anyone else better suited to handling your heavy carpets plus they have the machinery necessary for the job. Your priority would be to weigh the pros and cons of each cleaning method to determine which one will suit you the best.

Steam cleaning is also called hot water extraction. It uses a pre spray to first jostle the debris out of carpets. After that water or cleaning liquid is pumped onto them and extracted with very high pressure. The high pressure extraction method is effective in pulling out all the fluid from the carpets. This also includes other pollutants such as oils and dirt from the tiny fibers.

Dry cleaning, on the other hand, employs difference cleaning techniques entirely. It involves beating the carpet with a powder. The powder is then left on for a certain period of time. After that, it is sucked out by a vacuum cleaner. However, the powder cannot be removed.

This is also why carpet manufacturers recommend steam cleaning methods for carpet cleaning. Not only does it prevent the carpet from getting soiled too quickly but it is much more effective in getting out stubborn stains. One of the reasons is that the technique leaves behind no residue. Dry cleaning powders do tend to leave traces of powder on carpets sometimes. This can lead to stains.

However, dry cleaning methods do come with their own perks one of them being the nature of the cleaning methods themselves. Since it is dry or VLM (very low moisture) it is faster than steam cleaning. This can come in handy especially if you remembered that you forgot to give the carpet to the cleaners for the dinner party the next day.

In the end, the choice depends on your personal preferences. If you have the time, steam cleaning would be the way to go. However, while dry cleaning can damage your carpet in the long run it is ideal for last minute cleanups.
